Boarding House proposal in Miranda at 144 Karimbla Rd refused by Council

There was a proposal for a large scale boarding house in Karimbla Road Miranda –A 26 room 2 Storey  boarding house for up to 52 residents at 144 Karimbla Road Miranda (DA14/1371).

The property was a single dwelling and the area is zoned low density.

The development was refused by Council and the developer decided not to take proposal to the Land and Environment Court but lodged a new development application DA16/0209 for 5 four bedroom townhouses DA16/0209 which was approved by Council on 20/10/2016

Update 26/10/2015

Council refused the application on 2/07/2015. Reasons for the refusal include:

1) The area already has a large amount of social housing and high levels of crime and antisocial behaviour.

2) There is an acute shortage of street parking in the area, particularly since the introduction of paid parking in Westfield.

3) There was a range of design deficiencies.

Update 14/05/2016

The State Government currently offers significant incentives for private developers to build boarding houses under their Environmental Policy for Affordable Rental Housing. For further information on these incentives press HERE.
